WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT? 

This course is to promote awareness of concepts about money, budgeting and investment, as well as how economic factors impact personal financial decisions. We will cover below topics: 

● What is money, how money works and how people interact with money;

● Financial problems and decisions related to people’s well-being; 

● How to live by your means with basic budgeting skills; 

● Basic economic concepts and principles and how they impact financial decision-making;

● Why people invest and what options people have; 

● How to develop smart investing strategies. 

WHO IS THIS COURSE DESIGNED FOR? 

This course is designed for grade 6-10 kids who want to build some basic understanding about money budgeting, and investment. Adults are also welcome if they are interested. 

WHY ATTEND THIS COURSE? 

It is increasingly critical for kids to access from an early age the basic concepts regarding finance, economics and investment. Financial challenges and how to make personal financial decisions might be the most important part for young people in their early stage life, and the current school education system does not prepare them at all. This course is also the basis for Miguo Finance advanced courses about investment strategies. 

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE COURSE? 

After completion of the course, kids should be able to: 

● understand what money is and how we interact with money everyday.

● understand and define some key economics concepts. 

● create and practice some simple budgeting skills. 

● understand methods to avoid personal financial problems. 

● understand what investing is and some typical choices and options.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL 8-WEEK CURRICULUM? 

Below is a typical 8-week curriculum. Each class is based on 50-60 minutes with detailed lecture notes and some class activities. There is typically no homework or additional requirements outside class time. 

● What is money and how money works; Changes in money concept in modern time and concept of electronic currency; 

● Banks and how banks work, how money flows. Concept of interest rate and compounding; 

● Money with personal life - how people interact with money everyday. Earn, save, spend, borrow, lend, and investment. Basic financial products in market; 

● Make money with a job, and the concept of taxation; Basic concept of budgeting, live within your means; 

● What is economics? Supply and demand, revenue and cost, opportunity cost;

● Concept of investment, different asset classes, and asset allocation; 

● Risk and return, play a risk game; risk adjusted return and investment strategy based on risk analysis; 

● Personal financial budgeting, investment as a lifetime goal, typical sources of financial mistakes, and how to avoid financial stresses;

This course is to teach concepts about stock market and fundamentals of some typical stock investment skills. This course is designed for grade 4-12 kids (in 3 levels 1-2-3) who are interested in stock investment and want to have some actual practical training based on real stock market. This course is using an actual stock trading simulating platform, and will cover below topics:

● What is stock and how stock is trade over the market;

● Mechanism of US stock market;

● Types of stock and funds in US market;

● Stock evaluation based on fundamental analysis and technical analysis,

● Risk and diversification, some basic stock trading skills,

● Economic factors that impact stock market, advanced trading tools like futures and options.

Students will learn the use of some advanced financial tools and get access to most recent Financial Technology (Fintech), including the technology used to develop automatic trading strategies.

WHO IS THIS COURSE DESIGNED FOR? 

This couse is designed for grade 9-12 students who have strong interests in stock market investment and in the most cutting edge technology that is being used in modern stock trading.

WHY ATTEND THIS COURSE? 

Investment counts on knowledge and information. Decisions have to be made on facts but not emotion. A long-term success is the life goal. This course intends to teach students practical stock trading and investment skills through a stock trading simulated platform.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE COURSE? 

Students will learn the use of some advanced financial tools and get access to most recent Financial Technology (Fintech). Technology is also introduced to develop automatic trading strategies.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL 8-WEEK CURRICULUM?

The Stock Market Game

WHAT IS THE STOCK MARKET GAME?
It is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students grades 4-12 in the world of economics, investing and personal finance and that has prepared 17 million students for financially independent futures.  It is a non-profit investment education program helping core academic subjects such as math, English Language Arts, economics, social studies, technology, and business. HOW IS THE GAME (COMPETITION) ORGANIZED?
The game itself is simple and straightforward: Each registered team will manage a financial portfolio of $100,000 within a 10-week time.  The account value is the only judgement and will be ranked against regional or national teams.  Students have simulator trading app based on real marketing data. Winning teams will be physically rewarded with gift cards etc., and also have opportunities for additional off-line activities.  

HOW IS A TEAM CONSISTED OF?
A team typically has 3-5 students under the guidance of an instructor.  The instructor will teach curriculum of basic trading and finance knowledge, and help to set up and maintain the trading platform. Student can assume various roles but everyone will learn to do market research and contribute trading ideas.  

WHAT IS A TYPICAL 10-WEEK CURRICULUM?
Below is 10-week elementary curriculum recommended by the program, which includes standard textbook and class activity guidance. Each class is based on 50 minutes. Teacher may give additional topics to higher level students.

ARE THERE SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAMS TO SMG?
InvestWrite™
This optional program requests the team to write a comprehensive article to explain their market research and their investment strategy.  In addition to opportunities for state and national recognition and exciting prizes like an all-expense paid trip to Wall Street, InvestWrite provides an authentic culminating tool to train student to think and write in good logic and reasoning.     
Invest It Forward™:
Business professionals from functions across the financial industry could be the classroom guest speaker, which can be done in-person or online at any point during the SMG game session.  This program helps students gain real-world insights into savings, investing, and future academic and career pursuits.

WHAT IS OUR PLAN?
We will attend the initial 10-week competition in free-style: This is to prepare the students for basic financial concepts and get familiar with trading platform;
We will hold 10 online classes each lasting 1 hour. Focus will be on the curriculum but not trading itself;
In summer time we will launch a new team entering the official competition;
Summer program will focus on market research and investment strategy; Summertime classes will teach more complicated financial tools and skills; 
Summer time will be good for some real time trading sessions, too. 
Starting from the 3rd or later competitions, we will attend the program InvestWrite™ and InvestWrite™
